Big Drink and Small Gandalf

Yesterday I met Mom for lunch and a movie.  We were going to go see Les Misérables during the Christmas break but I was not into being around people or taking the bus more than necessary, so we waited until this past weekend.

I disagree with some of the harsh criticism some people have tweeted, I think the singing by all 3 primary actors, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway was just as it needed to be; raw and real.  They acted and sang with emotion that gave me goosebumps and filled my eyes and heart with tears.

I have not seen Les Mis on stage live.  I didn't know the story at all. I actually don't really dig musical theater.  But this felt more like an Opera. I enjoy the Opera and I thoroughly enjoyed the film.

I also scored an awesome bit of geek treasure at the concession stand; a big drink with a small Gandalf!

Awesome.

Magic

We don't have kids, ergo, we don't have toys.
I wouldn't believe any adult that told me they haven't at one time
or another, played with their kids' toys.

I'm sure if I had an Etch n' Sketch or Lite Brite at my disposal,
I'd create a work of art.

I have, on occasion, bought myself some grown up toys.
They come from the awesome store

Now, they aren't the expensive collectible sort.
Although, the Lord of the Rings items they had available made me wish
I had enough coin to make my very own (nerd alert)  LOTR tribute room.

I still hope to one day own my very own replica of
Gandalf the White's Staff.
I got my Gandalf from Silver Snail Comics.

I bought my very own Harry Potter wand.
I almost want to bring it with me to the last film and hold it
up at the end, like they did when Prof. Dumbledore was killed.
Is that going too far?
Perhaps.

I keep my wand on my DVD player.
I took a photo of it and it is Day 43
in my Project 365 page, but here it is
in all its glory.

Pretty cool huh?

Lumos

Lumos Maxima

Nox
Love it.
The light goes on and off with a small flick of the wrist.
Loads of fun.

Saturday Afternoon

After I posted the photo of Adam with his
extreme bed head, he got an e-mail from our best friend
telling him to get a haircut.

Today, he got a hair cut AND he is going to shave
off his beard.  I get it, it probably feels good to have
soft smooth skin on your face, but I really dig the beard.
It'll grow back.

We have put off our movie date until next weekend
as we want to go see the new Robert DeNiro/Bradley Cooper
film Limitless. It looks superb.
Check out the trailer HERE.

While Adam was getting his hair cut, I went across the street
to the Yonge Eglinton Center.
I went into Mary Maxim, the knitting/craft store as I need a rug hook tool.
When I was at my parents place 2 weekends ago, my Mom gave
me a whole bag full of yarn & a rug hook sheet I bought years ago.
I'm going to complete it & put it in the bottom of
Crockett's basket for padding.

I also hit the dollar store for a note book and Solutions to
buy a Thermos for my morning Oatmeal.
I've been buying it from Tim Horton's.
I figure at $1.99/day I'm spending too much.
The Thermos only cost $5.99.
Adam has said he'll make it for me in the mornings
so I can take it to work. What a sweetheart he is.

This is everything I bought myself today & I didn't spend more than $20.

When I got home Crockett actually scratched the door to go out.
Since Adam & I went out, Crockett only got a utility tinkle
this morning, so we went for our Saturday walk.

I'm going to post more of our walk photos over on my Tumblr page.
Click on my hand drawn camera link at the top right if you
want to see them.

A lady stopped her car & asked me if Crockett was friendly.
I said yes, thinking she wanted to pat him.
I then heard a loud GRUFF.
It sounded like a horse barking.
A 150lb German Sheppard came running towards us.
He was absolutely beautiful. Way too heavy, but beautiful.
Crockett didn't know what to make of him.

After he sniffed Crockett and let out a few more barks, he
was exhausted and had to sit down. Poor thing.
He let me rub the scruff of his neck and he moaned a bit.
I love Dogs.

As Crockett and I walked away, Crockett got all brave
and turned around & barked at him.
I was so happy I had my camera in hand & ready to shoot.

All in all a great afternoon & it's only 5:30pm.
The best part is I haven't slept the day away!

As I'm writing this, Adam put in a movie for me,
Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring.
He reminds me of my Dad.
So, I went to Face In Hole & created what I call;
DADGALF.

Love it.

Gargle With Salt Water

I was sick over Christmas.
The sore throat and congestion has since gone away but
the fatigue and general feeling of malaise never fully departed.
Almost every night at some point, I wake up, cough a few times,
Adam gets me a glass of water, and I go back to sleep.
No chest congestion, just an irritating dry cough.
We don't have a humidifier so I chalk it up to cold dry winter air.

I am just tired tired tired all the time.
You know it's bad when you fall asleep while sitting on the throne.
If I sit anywhere for more than 5 minutes and close my eyes, I'm done.

It's been really cold the last few days.
NOT complaining, as it's also been beautifully sunny
and the sidewalks are dry.
I dress in layers and I actually find the crisp air in the
morning rather refreshing.
I also have hand warmers to activate in my purse in case of emergency.
I was a Brownie and Girl Guide, I'm prepared!

Tuesday at work, I felt the top of the back of my mouth getting a little dry.
By Tuesday night, the throat was sore & the stuffy nose had returned.
I'm not sick, I'm just stuffy.
The stuffy where you lay down and your nose congests only on one side
then you turn over & the other side congests. Vicious cycle!

I will have another weekend of doing nothing, I mean, resting ;)
The weather is supposed to warm up and I've been wanting to take Crockett
down the walking trail past the Lawn Bowling Club.
It is nice this time of year. Packed snow, good trail.
Hopefully we'll get in a nice walk this weekend.

For now, I've gargled with salt water, I have a Kleenex up my sleeve and
under the advice of Gandalf the Grey, I am going to take 2 Buckley's
night-time caplets and get some sleep.

I shall not coouugghh!

Nerd Alert!

We had an AMAZING day.

Adam and I went shopping at The Eaton Center.
It was so full of people.
Happy and pleasant people.
Santa was walking up & down the mall with a few Elves and he made me smile.
It was great how he made everyone smile, young and old.
Today, no one was rude, pushy, ignorant or complaining about waiting in line.

They have a tree that is decorated with Swarovski Crystals.
I don't think this photo does it justice. It was so pretty.
Women love sparkles like men love electronics.

Can you see my Adam in the photo? It's like trying to find Waldo.

We also went across the street to The Bay.
They have done the windows again this year.
They are magical and took me right back to being 8 years old.

Now is time for the
NERD ALERT

Adam got a pair of shoes from Groovy Shoes on Queen St West
so we just had to stop by The Silver Snail.

I bought this. Please watch below. It's awesome.
