More About The Weather

I don’t like talking about the weather so much but this past few weeks have been worse than I can remember it ever being,  at least in my adult working life.

There were a few summers as a teenager and lifeguard where I remember some scorchers but all I had to do was jump in the pool to cool off.  I really miss those days. Good memories.

I grew up in the 70’s in a bungalow without air conditioning.  On really hot summer nights all I had to do was go downstairs to the basement & it was cooler.

I’ve lived in apartments that have had central air conditioning and unless it was overly hot, I wouldn’t use it.  For me, there is nothing like a good nights’ sleep next to a wide open window.

This morning when the alarm went off I woke up right away and rather than hitting the snooze button a few times, I got up, got dressed & took Crockett out at 5:30am.

It was cooler outside than it was in our apartment.

Of course I took my camera with me.  I spent about 5 minutes taking photos of the Snails and when I turned around to check on Crockett, he was laying in the grass. I'm sure the dew felt nice on his belly.  Although in the last shot, he does look like he's giving me the stink eye.

F You Humidity

I've always said Fall is my favorite season and days like yesterday, today, and apparently tomorrow reinforce that.  This humidity is killing me. It makes me think of something rude Andrew Dice Clay said during a stand up comedy routine, " It's too hot to...(rhymes with truck)." And it is, but really, it's too hot to do anything.

Our rent doesn't include hydro so I fear the energy sucker that is the window AC unit but I can delay no longer, it must be put in the window tonight.

Right now the temperature is Toronto is 32°C (90°F)

The weather network says it feels like  42°C (108°F)

Relative Humidity is 66%

When I walked out of my hot apartment this morning at 6:15am, I was hit with a wall of humidity.

I was hoping to see storm clouds but this was the sky.

What A Sky!

This morning during my commute to work, the sky was amazing.  Since we turned the clocks forward, I am again starting my day out in the dark, before sunrise.

Looking South East it was a muted pink with brush stroke puffs of grey and looking North, it was dark and grey and moving and alive.  Our forecast today calls for a Thunder storm, which is unfortunate as we're supposed to be able to see Venus and Jupiter very clearly tonight. Let's hope it clears up by then.

By the time I arrived at work (7:45am) and got off the bus, every direction I looked they sky was different. The pink had turned to an eerie yellow. I ran into reception, grabbed our camera and I took all these shots standing in the same spot. I just rotated.

Did It Rain?

My Dad came downtown today & took me to lunch.
It's always tough to choose what to eat when we go to
Le Marche Movenpick / Richtree Market at BCE Place , but today
when my Dad came back to the table with the Canadian Breakfast, I
had to have the same.

Seriously, they have the very best breakfast sausages I've tasted in
a really long time. My Mom & my Dad both agree.

It's a nice place to go because you can eat at your own pace, the wait staff
are all friendly and don't bother you too much.
It's also nice that there are a bunch of smaller rooms so that
you're not in the middle of all the noise.

We were discussing the length, or lack thereof,
of the girl in the pink tops' skirt.
I, being the prude I am, thought it was inappropriate.
My Dad said, "She has nice legs."

I tried to get his finger resting right at the top of the tower but
my lack of direction & his impatience made for a "fail".

After a cuppa at Tim's, my Dad got on his train home & I got on the subway.
My trip from Union Station to Davisville to transfer to the bus was no more 20 minutes.

The sky was grey but it wasn't raining when I left Union.
By the time I got home it was drizzling but I think I missed a heavy flash rain
because the intersection north of our building, that thankfully is downhill from us,
was flooded over the sidewalks and the traffic lights were out.

There were TOOLS driving so fast and NOT obeying the;
"traffic lights out 4 way stop rule".
I just hope there isn't an accident because the corner is a nightmare.

The water level is over the sidewalk curb.
There are sewers under there somewhere!

Affliction

That is one way my long weekend can be explained.

Carrying the groceries home Friday, I hurt my back.
My upper left back by my shoulder blade to be exact.
The kind of pain that makes me swear every time I move.

Staying in bed too much due to my sore back caused additional
back soreness, but lower right pain.
The kind that grabs you as you go to get up & you end up in a very
odd position unable to move.

Add the Black Dog that's been nipping at my heels more than usual lately,
the heat and humidity and it's fair to say I've not been a joyous person.
This heat we've been having has really got the better of me.

I'm happy it's August.
That means Fall is just around the corner.

Holy Leto Mother of Apollo!

Al I can say about today is if I see ANY dog left in ANY car,
I will break the window & steal the dog.

I saw too much skin on the bus this morning on my way in,
I am quite sure I'll see alot more on my way home.
I'm sure I'll smell too many people too!

Thanks alot APOLLO!

Really?

It's as hot as stink today.
Everyone is walking, talking and thinking slower.

This morning, by the time I got out of the shower & got dressed, I was a hot mess.
Traveling to work on a hot city bus with A/C on but all the windows open,
I arrived at work looking like a hot mess.
Leaving work and waiting for a bus in the hot muggy crap outside, by the
time I got on the bus, I looked like a hot mess.
Walking from the bus stop to my front door completely soaked my back.
Eeeewwww disgusting.  Hot mess.

The second I got home, I put Crockett in the tub & splashed some cool water on his belly.
I then got in & enjoyed a tepid shower.
An hour later as Adam & I ate our salad and corn on the cob,
buttery hot mess.
At 9:30pm when I took Crockett out hoping it'd cooled down a bit...I was wrong.
I came back in, brow dripping, again, eeewwww... hot mess.
Jumped back in the shower.

9:45pm on the phone with Mom pissing & moaning about the heat.
Decide, (pardon my french) fuck it, lets put the A/C unit in the bedroom window.
I need to sleep & I can't leave home in the morning a hot mess.
It just sets me up for a bad day.

Here is the thing about our A/C unit; it is standard size.
Our window is oversize.
Until I can fix it up properly, we are certified 100% WHITE TRASH
with a garbage bag up at our window.

Truth is, I don't care. Right now anyway.
Tomorrow I will be mortified.
All I can hear in my head is that actor from Grace Under Fire when she played
Earl's mother and said repeatedly in a thick southern drawl, " Don't you judge me."

Can y'all hear the dueling banjo's rattling around my head?
Crockett is asleep and breathing normally and I sit here
typing, not looking like a hot mess, but rather a comfortable
gal in her jammies ready for a good night's sleep.

I'll take a photo & post it after I've figured out how to fix it!
Actually,  looking at the above photo, I think I did a pretty good job!
I think the yellow duct tape is a nice touch along with the paper clips ;)
I am a resourceful girl, I'll give myself that!

Holy Storm Batman!

So, today was hot.
Stinkin' hot.
Record heat hot.
Pants stickin' to the back of your leg hot.

7:00pm the sky got real dark real fast.
7:03pm the wind was blowing every which way.
7:05pm it was pouring rain.
7:06 - 7:15pm the Thunder never stopped.
7:15- 7:40pm rain, wind, thunder & lightning continue.
7:40pm HAIL!!!!
7:43pm rain has melted all the hail.
7:43pm to now, still raining, still windy, still thundering & lightning.

No more humidity!
