Roadkill

Today was the third day in a row on my way to work that
I saw roadkill at the corner where I catch the bus.
It is an awful way to start my day and it makes me very sad.

Right next to us is the beautiful park.
Across the street is the parkette that is all part of
miles and miles of walking trails through the city.

While waiting for the bus before dawn I've seen
foxes, rabbits, chipmunks, and raccoons.

I killed a bird once years ago that flew into the front grate
of my car while on the highway.
To this day it haunts me.

It is bizarre that I have almost grown immune to seeing people harm people,
but seeing animals killed by vehicles kills me a little bit inside.
